How do I engage all students in my course?

Get to know students

Students are more likely to engage in classroom environments in which students feel part of a community. Help students feel part of a learning community by encouraging all to become familiar with one another. Get to know your students. Allow them to know parts of yourself. Facilitate them getting to know each other. Consult the Getting to Know Students page for ideas.

Design engaging activities

Engaging students with course content increases the likelihood of achieving learning outcomes. Engage students in writing, in discussions, in asking questions, and in making sense of concepts and examples. As they begin to formulate and refine ideas, they move closer to commonly accepted knowledge and understandings, paving the way for new discoveries. For engagement strategies and resources, see the Engaging Students page.
